Anshu Arora

Anshu Arora is ardent about infusing colour,warmth and joy into visual /tactile experiences. Back in 1999 she rose to fame as a young fashion designer with her independent studio label a smallshop at a time when the second-generation of Indian design thinking was just taking shape.

Anshu custom designs most of the feature lights, textiles,wall papers .She communicates and collaborates with the client, creative agency,architectural firm, furniture factories,flooring companies, craft organisations and artists to orchestrate spaces filled with the right mix of intimacy and breathing room that hum with stories tucked into every detail. She intimately connects with materials like wood, metal,glass.basketry and textile across industrial and handcrafted methodologies, moonlighting between them with ease and comfort. Passionate about Craft and always eager to discover and build connections Anshu has engaged with various craft based NGO’s and fair-trade organisations to co-create clothing and accessory products .She loves the opportunity to get out in the country and work directly with weavers and embroidery groups. She believes in poetic design for people.

Recognition

She was one of the youngest Indian designers to retail Selfridges,London for two seasons in a row. Her work has been featured in Vogue,Elle,The Architectural Digest and The Cond’e Nast Traveller.

Work

Besides running an artistic,robust business in fashion,home wear and retail,earlier as a solo designer and by 2006 in collaboration with her partner Jason Cheriyan, she has designed costumes for dance and theatre productions and worked extensively on the ground with craft communities . Her foray into Interior design was serendipitous.In 2013, Ad Singh of Olive bar and restaurants approached her to bring warmth and life into a 7000 square feet Asian bar &restaurant LTO. Just back from an exploratory trip to Auroville,Anshu was inspired to create a relaxed, magical urban forest. Over the next five years she worked with their team closely to conceptualise design and deliver three successful Bar & restaurant products across eight locations in three cities.
